Nightmares

She could only watch him for a few moments, hoping he was going to come down from the hallucinations he’d had only moments previous. Aqua rubbed his knee reassuringly, just keeping an eye on him and giving the time she thought he’d need to calm down. Once he was feeling a little better they could go see Master Eraqus and he’d know what to do. He had to…

When he curled in on himself, eyes shutting again in obvious pain, she reached for his hand, taking it and squeezing it tightly. Terra had to know that she was there for him. No matter if he started seeing things he had to feel her presence and know she would do everything in her power to make him better again.

Aqua had no idea what was going on, what kind of horrible images he’d seen, or what was happening to him now, and it made her whole body shake, wishing there was some way she could make it all go away, make Terra better again. She was prepared to do whatever it took without a second thought, but she didn’t know what it would take, and so she couldn’t do anything for the moment.

The earth-named man gripped her shoulder, and she squeezed his hand in return, knowing she was his only grip on reality at the time. Aqua took a few shuddering breaths, doing her best not to show just how scared she truly was, because she was going to be there for him. He couldn’t see how worried she was.

“I’ll try, Terra,” she said quietly, breath hitching when he looked at her…soterrified.

“I swear, I’m going to get you out of this,” she said. “No matter what it takes, you’ll come back. I promise.” Aqua, unable to think of anything else to do, rested her forehead against his, moving her hand from his to his chest and feeling his heartbeat.

Aqua pushed every last bit of magic she had into the places they touched, trying to connect their hearts so that even if his terrors didn’t go away, she could take some of them onto herself and spare him this horror.

“We’ll get through this, just hold onto me.”

Everything sounded so far away, almost underwater. He could barely keep his grip on reality, quite literally. His only tie sat right in front of him and even she went in and out of his vision as clammy hands practically slipped off her shoulder. Where was he? It was almost being in between two dimensions and it utterly terrified him. There was no training on this.

He felt alone.

No, anything but that. More memories of his past bubbled and rolled angrily in his skull, faint outlines of people that should have been familiar to him but were completely foreign at the same time. Parents. But he was seeing them through his own older eyes, not the eyes of a toddler. Realities and time were mashed in his mind, making some oddball mixture of past, present and presumably future. Terra had no idea, it was a shot in the dark and an off the wall guess.

But why?

The pain in his skull worsened and in effort to find relief, the muscled teen jerked from his friend’s touch. A sickening crack sounded as his head collided with the wall behind him, the plaster cracking to imitate spider webs with the decently sized dent now there. His tense body went limp and cerulean eyes stared up at the ceiling, lips agape as if he just left the world and left his body behind.

Terra didn’t know how long he was out of it but when his body jerked again, he had been physically shoved back into his empty shell that he had left behind on the floor. The pain was gone.

“What’s going on out here,” came a familiar voice. A voice that Terra associated heavily with safety, wisdom and family. Was it real though? The apprentice didn’t even bother trying to reason with himself on if it were or not. He felt cracked, drained emotionally.

“…tired…” was all he managed to get out.

//Gurl, I’ve been off and on this blog for the past few weeks. The only problem I’ve had is that I’m severely lacking threads to answer. I have…two currently? And both are semi-AU of canon. So yup. Terra needs to get out of his corner and stretch his legs more.
